Glenn Lockhart

Alumnus Executive Director, VL2

As executive director of the Gallaudet University Science of Learning Center on Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2), Mr. Lockhart works closely with the Co-Principal Investigators and leads or advises on the non-science aspects of the center, such as budgeting, planning, personnel actions, legal, donor relations, major events and communications, and planning.

Previously, Mr. Lockhart served in the Office of the President and provided strategic leadership to the University’s Board of Trustees during a period of transition and modernization, overseeing and advising on trustee relations, governance processes and documents, budgeting, and key external relationships. Elsewhere in the President’s Office, he managed institutional sponsorship decisions, provided support on presidential communications, and served as office representative on the University's Inclusive Excellence Ambassadors program. He also provided interim support with relations with the DC Mayor’s Office and the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area.

Prior to the President’s Office, Mr. Lockhart was director of public relations and communications at the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center from 2012-2018, and before that, senior project manager and head copywriter at Convo Communications from 2009-2012. His communications background dates back to 2001, when he originated the public information office at the Arizona Communications for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. In the years since, his media relations have resulted in local, industry, community, and national newspaper, magazine, radio, TV, and influencer coverage.

You can catch Mr. Lockhart on campus on Tuesdays at gatherings of the Turn-a-Page-Together program, operated by the Division of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, for which he first participated in Fall 2012 and have not missed since Fall 2014. He received his master’s degree from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University and his bachelor’s degree in English from Gallaudet. Go Bison!
