PEN Distinguished Lecture Series

The PEN Distinguished Lecture Series in Educational Neuroscience was created in association with the Foundations Proseminar course for graduate students in the Ph.D. in Educational Neuroscience (PEN) program. Since its inception, the series has grown!

The lecture series focuses on the intersection of the Science of Learning (learning across the lifespan) and Educational Neuroscience (learning across early life). Scientists and researchers who are pioneers in the fields of Cognitive-Educational Neuroscience, Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience, and Child Development come to Gallaudet University's campus to talk about their research.

Dr. Denis Mareschal completed an initial BSc. in Physics and Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University (UK) before switching to Psychology, obtaining an MA in computational modelling of children's learning from McGill University (Canada) and a DPhil. in Psychology from Oxford (UK). He has been awarded prizes from the Cognitive Science Society, International Congress on Infant Studies, and the British Psychological Society for his work exploring the mechanisms of learning and development across a range of cognitive and perceptual domains. He is the current director of the Centre for Brain and Cognitive Development. Over the last 10 years, he has led the UnLocke project (Unlocke.org), developing a neuroscience-based primary school maths and science education intervention. He is committed to taking neuroscience out of the lab and into the real world, in terms of primary research and in terms of translational impact

The PEN Distinguished Lecture Series in Educational Neuroscience honors researchers who have changed the landscape of science. We invite them to share their discoveries as we forge new links across research communities within Gallaudet University, Washington D.C., and the world.
