BL2 research assistant wins prestigious scholarship
Victoria Mousley, a research assistant to Dr. Laura-Ann Petitto in her Brain and Language Laboratory for Neuroimaging (BL2) at Gallaudet University, has won a prestigious scholarship for young leaders.
Mousley will receive the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, which provides $30,000 toward tuition at the graduate school of her choice. She is a full-time student at the College of the Holy Cross, in Worcester, Massachusetts, and spent the Spring 2016 semester as a visiting student in BL2.
As a representative of her home state of Vermont, Mousley will also attend the Truman Scholars Leadership Week in Kansas City, Missouri, at the end of May.
Mousley is studying to become a cognitive neuroscientist with a specialization in language acquisition. She hopes to apply neuroscience research to inform education policy for deaf and hard of hearing students.
Her training in BL2 spanned the wide range of educational benefits available at BL2; the National Science Foundation's Science of Learning Center, Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2); and Gallaudet's Ph.D. in Educational Neuroscience (PEN) program.
Mousley's experiences in BL2, VL2, and PEN demonstrate several of the many ways students can gain rich training, learning, and career opportunities at Gallaudet.

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation seeks to promote careers in public service for the country's next generation of leaders. This year, the foundation selected 55 scholars from a record-breaking application pool of 775 applicants.
