Action & Brain Lab (ABL)
The Action & Brain Lab at Gallaudet University (Dr. Lorna Quandt, Director) is currently seeking participants for a new study of action and perception. This study collects brainwave activity while participants see videos of people performing actions and provide simple responses. Participation takes approximately 1.5 hours; you will be paid $20/hour for your time and travel.
Eligible participants are: 1) at least 18 years old, 2) hearing, 3) do not know any sign language, and 4) right-handed. All requirements must be met for consideration.

The Action & Brain Lab and Numeracy and Educational Neuroscience Lab is seeking participants for a study on simple math (includes addition, subtraction and multiplication). Our study collects brainwave activity while you answer simple math problems.
Eligible participants are: 1) right handed, 2) between the ages of 18 and 35, and 3) a deaf signer, hearing native signer, or hearing.
All requirements must be met for consideration. Participation will take approximately 1.5 hours (we will accommodate your schedule). Participants will be paid $20/hour. Please email action.brain.lab@gallaudet.edu if you are interested or have questions.

Numeracy and Educational Neuroscience Neuroscience (NENS) The Numeracy and Educational Neuroscience Lab (NENS) is seeking participants for a study on simple math (includes addition, subtraction and multiplication). It consists of a few computer-based tasks.
Eligible participants are between the ages of 18 and 35 AND a deaf signer, hearing native signer, or hearing. Participation will take approximately 1 hour; participants will be paid $15/hour.

NENS_Non Signers Study - Jan.2019
Language and Education Neuroscience Lab (LENS)
Study 1
The Language and Educational Neuroscience (LENS) Laboratory is conducting a study on language and listening in adults that either: (A) have no hearing loss or difficulty listening to speech or (B) have used a hearing aid or cochlear implant since the age of 5. If you fall into one of these categories, we would like to ask for your participation.
We are studying how adults process speech. During the study, you will listen to and make decisions about sentences. We will use neuroimaging technology that uses harmless light to measure brain activity. This study will take approximately 1.5 – 2 hours; participants will be paid $20 per hour.

Study 2: Language and Reading Study for Deaf and Hearing Children Dr. Clifton Langdon's Language and Educational Neuroscience (LENS) Lab at Gallaudet University is conducting a paid study of language and reading in children. We are looking for Deaf children who know ASL and hearing children who speak English. If your child is in Kindergarten through 6th grades, they may be eligible to participate!
During the study, children look at pictures on a computer screen and make decisions about ASL signs and English words. While the child is doing this, we will be using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to measure brain activity. We place a cap on the child's head with optodes that shine very low-intensity light (similar to a flashlight) onto their head. Using this light, we can measure brain activity while the child does reading and language activities on a computer. This is a very safe and non-invasive way to study brain activity and this technology has been approved by the FDA.
Children who've taken part in our studies have fun learning about their brains and ask lots of great questions about our science! The study takes about 1 to 1.5 hours and you will be paid $20/hour for your child's time. Kids also receive a fun toy to thank them.
