Peter Crume

Deaf Education
University of Illinois

Peter was born and raised in the Washington, DC area. He is a CODA (both my parents attended Gallaudet College). He has a BA and MA from East Carolina University (ECU). After his years at ECU, Peter worked as a sign language interpreter and worked for two years for the Peace Corps in Kenya, where he taught at a primary school for the deaf and was involved in HIV/AIDS outreach in the deaf community. Currently at the University of Illinois in Champaign, he is researching how deaf preschool teachers socialize and incorporate early literacy development with their deaf preschoolers. After he graduates from the University of Illinois, he hopes to gain a tenure track position and teach college classes and research deaf children in preschool and school settings.
