Emily Shaw is a Ph.D. student in linguistics at Georgetown University and is working on a project with Paul Dudis and Pilar Pinar at Gallaudet University. She moved to Washington by way of Chicago where she received her B.A. in English and American Studies from DePaul University and completed the Interpreter Training Program at Columbia College. She now works on sociolinguistic analyses of ASL, particularly contemporary manifestations of its historic relationship to LSF. More recently, she has been interested in the application of gesture theory in spoken language to discourse in sign language.
