Brandon Loudermilk

Linguistics
University of California, Davis

Brandon Loudermilk, originally from San Antonio, Texas, is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in linguistics at the University of California, Davis. Brandon received his B.A. in anthropology from Reed College, where he conducted research on computer-mediated communication and computer hacker social group dynamics. Afterwards, he worked as a software engineer, product manager, and director of software development for a number of companies including Tivoli, IBM, and Gemstone Systems. After a stint at teaching English as a foreign language in Korea, Brandon completed his M.A. in applied linguistics at the University of Texas, where he conducted research on second language acquisition and sociolinguistics. His current research interests include the neurobiology of language from the perspectives of language disorders and cortical stimulation mapping. Brandon is currently conducting an event-related potential study investigating the perception of sociolinguistic variation and the language attitudes it engenders. In his spare time (these days of which there is precious little), Brandon enjoys bicycle touring, long-distance backpacking, mountaineering, and rock climbing.
