StaffGuinevere EdenInitiative Co-Director, Written Language and Reading Georgetown University
While earning her Doctorate, Dr. Eden studied visuospatial and language processing in reading disabled children. She then came to the United States to pursue a Fogarty Fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda, MD, applying functional neuroimaging techniques to further study visual processing in individuals with dyslexia. Since joining the faculty at Georgetown University in Washington, DC in 1996, her work has focused on characterizing visual processing in individuals with and without dyslexia using fMRI and extending this approach to other sensory domains, such as sensorimotor control. Dr. Eden and her colleagues are implementing an interdisciplinary approach to obtain a better understanding of the physiological and behavioral complexity of developmental dyslexia and other learning disorders. Improved understanding of the neural mechanisms of development reading disability may also suggest novel approaches that might lead to improvements in it diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Eden is a Co-Science Director for VL2.
