This study will investigate the speed of visual sign language processing, including visual sign phonological awareness processing, in young deaf typically and atypically-developing bilingual-bimodal readers (ages 5-16 years). This study will investigate whether the rate of processing in a visual language is related to performance on a range of ASL and English proficiency tasks. Given the paucity of assessments for language disorders in the signing population, results from this study has the added potential to make groundbreaking advances in the identification of developmental (signed) language disorders in young deaf bilinguals.
