Illinois AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE FACULTY POSITIONDepartment of Speech and Hearing Science College of Applied Health Sciences University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Position: The Department of Speech and Hearing Science invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position in the area of American Sign Language. The position is at the Assistant Professor level. Available: August 16, 2009 Description: The Department seeks candidates with research and teaching expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) with emphasis in socio-linguistics, language sciences, human communication sciences, and/or Deaf studies. Preference will be given to applicants with a line of scholarly research that fits one or more of these research areas, demonstrated teaching experience, and the ability to acquire external funding in support of his/her research. Applicants who have potential to excel in these areas will also be considered. Qualifications: Applicants must hold an earned doctorate or terminal degree in an appropriate field by August 2009. Responsibilities: Conduct and publish research in one’s chosen area of expertise as it relates to American Sign Language, seek external funding in support of research endeavors, teach undergraduate and graduate courses and advise and direct student theses and dissertations, engage in professional and public service activities, and serve on department, college, and university committees. Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Closing date: Screening of candidates will begin on February 13, 2009 and will continue until the position is filled.
