The Early Education Literacy Lab (EL2) has emerged as an outgrowth of the VL2 Early Education Longitudinal Study (EELS). It conducts studies of individual differences among deaf children in their literacy development in authentic early education settings. It also serves as the nexus for providing strong infrastructure support to the research community in areas of ASL Assessment, Data Sharing, and Research Volunteer Recruitment.

The VL2 center publishes research briefs as a resource for educators and parents. The goal is to inform the education community of research findings, to summarize relevant scholarship, and, in the form of practice guides, to present recommendations that educators and parents can use when addressing the multifaceted challenges of educating deaf and hard of hearing children.
