project 29 -- Visually oriented learners' executive function resources

NCF 3: Visually oriented learners' executive function resources (Hauser, Lukomski, Dye, Sandler, Meir):

The brain’s executive functions control how an individual uses his or her attention; as such, they are crucial for learning. This project is researching the following questions: (1) Is there a difference between good and poor readers’ executive functions? (2) What factors predict normal executive functioning in deaf individuals? (3) What is the relationship between executive functioning and the allocation of visual attention to the periphery? These questions are important because research has shown that in deaf children, good performance in executive functioning has positively predicted achievement in reading, writing and mathematics. This study is running parallel with CNP 1 and employs neuropsychological measures from the VL2 toolkit.
