project 24 -- Framework for sign language assessment tests

LCF 4: Developing a theoretical framework for sign language assessment tests (Paludneviciene, Hauser, Dudis):

Resources for the assessment of ASL proficiency are scarce, which compromises research and practical endeavors related to ASL structure, language fluency, and literacy. A key need is to develop a theoretical framework that will guide the creation of ASL proficiency tests. Our work is examining the roles played by physical space and the body in ASL, particularly in the use of the body to represent bodily actions. Spoken language assessment tests offer us very little guidance in this regard, since they do not evaluate this type of imagery. We are developing a prototype ASL assessment based on Dudis’s typological study of such phenomena.
