project 4 -- The socialization of visual engagement

The socialization of visual engagement for bilingual language acqusition in early childhood deaf education (Singleton):

This study investigates how deaf teachers socialize deaf preschoolers into participation in a community of visual learners, focusing on group book-sharing sessions because of their importance in language development and social self-regulation. We’re documenting behaviors that promote visual engagement, self-regulation of attention, and participation in a visual learning community. Specific behaviors of interest include the teacher’s signing, the students’ responses, and the use of visual media and physical objects.
